[Fran Oliveira](https://ffit.com.br/en/blog/author/fran-oliveira) Apr 18, 2023 --- Last Friday, we had LAUM’s first hands-on section. It couldn’t be any place other than [UECE](https://www.uece.br/), Ceará State University, Brazil. LAUM was used for the first time during Prof [Elizabeth Furtado](http://lattes.cnpq.br/7542338901767495)’s HCI/Software Engineering class for seniors in computer science undergraduate courses. Students will investigate the impacts of the use of the technology on the process of designing and evaluating prototypes, which will be conceived during the class project.  The LAUM team is very proud that Prof. Furtado agreed to use our technology with her students. Dr. Furtado is a world-class HCI researcher who has published many papers through decades of hard and innovative work. She’s an active professor who has advised many master's and doctoral students who are now college professors. Beth agreed to test LAUM because she saw the potential impact the technology could bring, not only for the design phase but for the whole software engineering process life cycle.  The class project LAUM is being tested involves Usability assessment according to [ISO 25010](https://www.iso.org/obp/ui/#iso:std:iso-iec:25010:ed-1:v1:en) norms; accessible, emotional, natural interaction, and evaluation of the process itself. Students are also required to define assessment measures. We believe this is an excellent test of our technology because it touches the core concepts upon which LAUM was conceived: Accessibility, usability, and productivity.  The first hands-on session left a good first impression among students who saw the technology as a productivity booster for their work.
